What happened?
The unofficial successor to FC Linz, once an Austrian champion as a VOEST works team, had been in the Bundesliga since 2023. In the 2024/25 season, the steel city team even made it into the championship group, where they narrowly missed the European Cup as sixth-placed.
Why is the relegation so important for Blau-Weiss Linz?
In the past season, Blau-Weiss was not competitive, especially in the fall, under the dismissed Mitja Mörec, the team only won three games in the first 15 rounds. In the winter break, the German Michael Köllner took over the club; under his leadership, the team won five games in 15 matches, but it was not enough to stay in the league.
